Living the message of the Gospels in practical and effective ways is a key part of our Catholic faith. This work is led by the Love in Action group which has a broad brief and works with other parish groups and the local community in Brentwood and Warley.
Many members of our Parish community have continued to reach out to others throughout the current restrictions. They have been helping to support the life of the Cathedral Community by acting as stewards in the Cathedral and helping to keep the Cathedral open both for daily prayer and Masses. They have also been helping those in most need by cooking for the homeless and helping out in their local neighbourhood.
in the Parish Hall every Friday from 6th January from 12 to 2pm. All are very welcome and voluntary contributions will go the homeless.
The Love in Action group has also been liaising with the Brentwood Foodbank and CAFOD to help maintain our Parish commitment to help those most in need.
This social action project, formed under the Love in Action umbrella, is a response to Pope Francis’s Laudato Si which calls us to care for our common home. Pope Francis asks us to reflect on the world around us and to open our eyes and see how God is present throughout creation. It is also important that we take responsibility for our actions now, because their consequences will have a long-lasting effect on future generations. Thus, the Green Guardians is a group that is committed to caring for our common home.
Brentwood Cathedral began in 1861 as a parish church built in a Gothic style. This relatively small building was raised to cathedral status in 1917. Between 1989 and 1991 the church was enlarged in an Italianate classical style.
The new Brentwood Cathedral was dedicated by Cardinal Basil Hume on 31 May 1991 and in 2022 the cathedral was listed at Grade II.
